Toastmasters Officer Training

Feb 23

Club officers should be trained twice a year: sometime between June and August, and again between December and February.

Sometimes experienced club officers feel that is no need for training–they they already know everything there is to know. But as Toastmasters, isn’t our philosophy one of continuous self-improvement, of asking how we can continually grow as a leader and a speaker? In addition, experienced officers can lead by example–when they go to training, more junior officers are more likely to as well.

The larger the training group, the more networking there is, and the more they can all learn from each other. Even the smallest or newest club often has ideas that other clubs can benefit from. For this reason, officers are strongly encouraged to go to the main TLI (Toastmasters Leadership Institute) held each training period. Yes, there may be smaller make-up group sessions afterwards, and the area governor may come in for one-on-one training, but you get the most value and enjoyment out of the largest event.

You may want to take your officer manual with you to training as a reference. Can’t find them? The manuals are on toastmasters.org in PDF format:

In addition, you may want to review the PowerPoint presentation District 55 uses to train all club officers at once:
